Lenten Regulations

All Catholics, who are 14 years of age and older, as a minimal obligation, are bound to abstain from eating meat on Ash Wednesday, and all of the Fridays of Lent.

Further, all Catholics who are 18 years of age and older, up to and including their 59th birthday, are bound to fast by limiting themselves to a single full meal on Good Friday, while the other two meals on that day are to be light.

All the faithful are encouraged to participate in a Mass and to receive the Most Holy Eucharist daily, to celebrate frequently the Sacrament of Penance, to undertake spiritual reading, especially the study of the Sacred Scriptures and to participate in parish Lenten devotions.

Our parish offers a bereavement ministry to help those who are grieving the loss of a loved one.  Our 10 weeks bereavement group New Day/New Life will begin on June 4th at the resource Center from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.  Please call Rita at 860-583-6674 to register or to obtain more information.  The program is free and open to all.

Please extend this invitation to members of your family who might benefit from our bereavement ministry.

 Defending Our Religious Liberty

Religious freedom is a God-given right. It is protected in the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights of our U.S. Constitution, which dates back to Dec. 15, 1791. The government should not be allowed to force people or groups to violate their most deeply held religious convictions. To quote Cardinal Timothy Dolan, president of the USCCB, “Religious freedom is our heritage, our legacy, and our firm belief, both as loyal Catholics and Americans.” This is not a Catholic issue, it will impact all religions.

Please contact the offices of your Congressional Representatives and United States Senators to express your opposition to the federal healthcare mandate. For addresses and phones numbers, please visit: www.ctcatholic.org or www.archdioceseofhartford.org.
